More Lessons From Mayli

Look who turned 37 TODAY....HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIAN!!!!!! Sorry honey that I stink as a wife this year and didn't even give you a card....what the heck? Can I still blame jetlag? I really do love you. You are a great husband and a wonderful daddy. You should go fishin! You more than deserve it!

Mayli and Carli with Grandpa....We had a bday party for he and Brian Friday night!

YES, it is crazy at the Knopf house. We have one little girl with chopped bangs and one little girl with a shaved eyebrow, but we are surviving, LOL. God continues to amaze me with what I am learning from this little girl. The thing that sticks out the most is TRUST. HE is showing me trust through her. Counselors will tell you that you can only give what you have been given by your own parents. Ya know, I thank God with all my soul that THAT doesn't have to be the case! God is here waiting to step in and fill those voids that each of us have. He deeply wants us to make Him our father, our everything. We were all once orphans and He has adopted us into His kingdom. I have watched this little girl trust with all her soul, all that she has within her, all that she is. We took her to one of our local chinese restaurants yesterday. When we drove up and she saw the red lanterns her face turned bright and excited. She ran in and immediately ran up to the owner, our friend Ming and started talking in Mandarin. We made sure we went in between lunch and dinner because we knew no one was getting their attention but Miss MAYLI. She told Ming many things that she wanted her new parents to know....God love her! She said that she likes us but is afraid of the dog at night. That is why she sleeps with her big sister each night because, she is afraid that when the lights go out that the dog will get her. She also told Ming that she doesn't understand why I won't let her attend school with Carli. She said she is afraid to attend but that she knows she will be ok if she can go with Carli. "Mama isn't listening to me she said when I tell her that I want to stay at school." Isn't that precious? I love how Mayli knows how to express her needs. She isn't afraid or hesitant to go after what she wants. TOTAL TRUST. Now does that sound like a child that lived over 3 years in an orphanage? NO WAY! What an inspiration to us all to stop whining about our "issues" and just "move on" by dealing with it however God shows us....go after what we need.....no excuses, have courage, face fear and let God fill in the gaps!

Annette, I just had to share that my husband and I had such a giggle about this today. We were talking about sending Jessica to Chinese school. I wanted to wait until she spoke fluent English, he wants to send her right away. He gave Mayli as an example of child who some "stuff to say". The whole conversation was sweet and funny, I'm sure he used the line (as if he were Mayli) "and can we talk about that dog". Following your blog has truly put me at ease - thank you for the glimpse into your life and some perspective on what we are about to encounter.
